Lucky Food: Reviews & Ratings

Randomly searched for Chinese carryout and found this place and decided to give it a try as pictures and reviews looked decent. Tried about 10 different items and most items were tasty without being too greasy. Would get chow fun, zhong zi, turnip cake, sticky rice, veggie and meat dishes again. Rice porridge was good, but was a tad sweet, not sure if I would get again, although it did have good bits inside. Prices were reasonable for SF standards. Awesome to be able to pay via Venmo or Zelle without having to bring cash. Would definitely stop by again if I’m in the area. Usual carry out ambience with busy carry out counter and some interior seating available, actually more spacious and tables than most carryout places.

A three entree plus main carb option for $9.20 including tax isn’t bad deal at all in this economy. Even though they only accept cash, they have Zelle/Venmo option to make it easy. The food is okay, probably not the healthiest quality either with the amount of oil they use (what kind of oil?), but they have veggies and lots of protein options. Definitely MSG loaded and I felt a little funny afterwards, but I’d say it’s not worse than Panda. I liked their Bbq pork and cod fish.

Lunch specials. 3 entrances + rice = $8.50. This got to be the cheapest in the area. It’s traditional Chinese food. So most customers are Chinese. But, if you come with an open heart and open stomach. It may be a good surprise.

New spot for a lunch special. Comes with a bed of rice and 3 items. Since I came with other people, I was able to try a lot of the options. Most notable was the soft tofu and fish balls and the chicken curry. I like that there is a variety of vegetables. The special is a great amount of food. It is also nice that they have a dine in option which has been clean each time.

Friendly staff, great Cantonese food, lots of choices, you can select any dishes on display unlike other Chinese restaurants. For the 3 dishes on rice meal deal, you can even pick bbq pork, chicken feet with no extra $! Most importantly, zero attitude unlike other Asian places on Stockton or even Clement st.

8$ lunch ?? In this economy??? Really good value, cheap and fast eats. What I loved about this place vs similar places in Chinatown is that they have seating in the back under a nice sunlight!!! Still takeout only but you can just take ur container and eat in the back. It can be a little intimidating to order here but just point at stuff and you’ll be good.

Love the quality and authentic food here. $8.50 for 3 entrees +white rice is amazing. They also have smalller food items such as beef rice noodle roll, chicken skewers, limited dim sum selection and occasional bbq meats. Co-workers and myself have been hooked, coming here multiple times a week for lunch!

Lucky Food is an absolute gem- the Lunch Plate Combos are outrageous, under $10 and can be split between two people. It is truly hard to find a bigger, better serving of food in SF for the price! The Salt and Pepper shrimp and the Chow Fun are go-tos but it's hard to miss here!

Lucky Food, nestled on Clement Street in San Francisco, offers an unpretentious yet satisfying dive into traditional Cantonese cuisine. This spot stands out for its generous lunch specials—three entrees accompanied by a bed of rice—for an unbeatable price around $8.50 to $9.20, making it one of the most economical choices in the neighborhood. The variety here is commendable; from classic dishes like chow fun and turnip cake to soft tofu, fish balls, and even chicken curry, there’s a wide selection that caters to different palates.

What truly elevates Lucky Food is the balance between flavor and quantity. The dishes are flavorful and come without overwhelming grease, though some items show a heavier hand with oil or MSG. Still, the quality remains consistent, and the portion sizes are hearty. For devotees of Cantonese comfort food, the option to customize your three-item rice bowl—including pricier selections like BBQ pork or chicken feet without extra charge—is a refreshing touch. This level of choice, paired with friendly service, creates a welcoming experience rare among Chinatown-area carryouts.

The ambience fits the category: mostly carryout with a bustling counter, yet it surprises with a more spacious and cleaner interior than the typical quick-stop Chinese joints. Customers appreciate not just the food, but also the payment flexibility, thanks to acceptance of Venmo and Zelle alongside cash.

In sum, Lucky Food shines as a practical and tasty option for those seeking authentic, no-frills Cantonese dishes without breaking the bank. Its balance of traditional flavors, generous portions, and straightforward hospitality make it a hidden gem on Clement Street worth revisiting.
